General Austin Scott Miller, the most senior US commander in Afghanistan, has resigned.
General Austin handed over command to General Kenneth McKinsey.
US President Joe Biden has assigned General Austin Scott Miller to be in charge of the final evacuation.
The US withdrawal from Afghanistan will be completed by the end of August and will be followed by about 650 US military personnel guarding the US embassy.
