Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has postponed parliamentary elections
Ramallah: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has postponed parliamentary elections, which he has blamed on Israel.
Speaking at a press conference in Ramallah, President Mahmoud Abbas said it was unclear whether Israel would allow elections in occupied Jerusalem, and that no response had been received from the Israeli government.
Palestine’s two rival political parties, Fatah and Hamas, agreed to hold legislative elections on May 22 and presidential elections on July 31. If elections were held under this agreement, it would be the first election in Palestine in fifteen years.
