Our stomach brain is more intelligent than we think, research
QUEENSLAND (Reuters) – Australian experts have discovered that the collection of nerve cells in the abdomen is more “intelligent” than previously thought, after examining the internal organs of rats with the latest techniques.

It should be noted that the kind of nerve cells found in our brain, similar to the nerve cells in our stomach, which are of special importance in many tasks related to the digestion of food.

From the contraction and expansion of our gastrointestinal walls to the digestion of food, these cells not only monitor dozens of functions, but also command the abdominal / gastric muscles when needed.
Due to this ability, this collection of nerve cells in the abdomen is also called “abdominal brain”.

This research was done on mice because some types of mice are very similar to humans internally, while the factors that occur there are similar to humans.

Using modern observation techniques, experts have discovered that this neural network found in the stomach is more complex than our previous knowledge, while also controlling the process of digestion in a very systematic way. Which we did not know before.

It controls the movement and secretions in each part of the esophagus from beginning to end, indicating that the “brain in the stomach” is more complex than our previous estimates and information. Also “more intelligent”.

This discovery is very important but it cannot be called complete because there are still many questions to be answered regarding the nerve cells in the stomach.

Further details will be obtained through further research to better understand the digestive system and devise various treatments for digestive and related problems, including diseases.
