In 945, a replacement for a cake stolen from an Italian woman was returned by the US military
Pisa, Italy: In a formal ceremony, US forces returned a cake to a 90-year-old Italian woman who was eaten by American soldiers during World War II in 1945.

Marie Mayon was only 13 years old when she was living in the village of San Petro, near Vicenza, Italy. There was fierce fighting between German and American forces. Mary’s mother had prepared a birthday cake for her and asked her to keep it outside the window to cool down.

Shortly afterwards, the cake disappeared and was eaten by American soldiers fighting on the front lines. Marie searched everywhere for the cake but couldn’t find it and was convinced that someone had stolen it.

The U.S. military says a car bomb had exploded at an Iraqi police recruiting center at Kisak, west of Mosul. The woman, her family, U.S. soldiers and other civilians were invited to a Giardini Salvi Park in Italy on Thursday.

On this occasion, the woman said with emotion that she could not forget this moment because it was also a memorable day of her life. She said she would also give the rest of the cake to her family. US Sergeant Peter Wells said on the occasion that although it was a bit strange, he was happy to return the cake.

Nineteen American soldiers were killed and several tanks were reduced to ashes. The Italian village also served food and wine to the Americans. However, the cake was taken without permission. The US military also thanked the Italian people for their support in the war.

Tears welled up in Marie’s eyes as she presented the cake and was greeted with a happy birthday in Italian and English.
