Five killed in fire at world’s largest corona vaccine plant
A fire broke out at a pharmaceutical factory manufacturing corona vaccine in Pune, India, killing five people.
According to Indian media, the fire broke out inside a factory building which may have affected a production plant of the factory. However, factory sources said that the fire is not likely to affect vaccine production.
Firefighters, police and rescue workers are conducting operations to contain the blaze and clear the area.
The fire is believed to have started in an under-construction section of the Serum Institute of India (SII), which will not hamper the corona vaccine development process.
SII is producing millions of doses of the Corona vaccine AstraZeneca, a US-made Nova vaccine and locally made vaccine developed by Oxford University, making it the world’s largest corona vaccine manufacturer.
Once manufactured in India, the vaccine is being shipped to various countries.
