Efforts are underway to persuade the Taliban to attend the Istanbul Summit
ANKARA: Several countries, including the United States, have stepped up efforts to persuade the Taliban to attend the Istanbul summit, with a series of meetings with the Taliban in Doha.
Efforts to persuade the Taliban to attend the Istanbul Summit have intensified, with meetings in Doha continuing. Representatives of the United States, Qatar, the United Nations and Turkey met with the Taliban.
All delegations continued to try to reassure the Taliban that the Doha Agreement would be implemented by 9/11.
The US Secretary of State has said that the civil war in Afghanistan is not in anyone’s interest, if the Taliban want to be part of the government and recognize their power, they have to be part of the political process.
Anthony Blinken says the United States will continue to train Afghan forces, and so far 300,000 troops have been trained.
