Biden’s nominee for defense minister acknowledges Pakistan’s efforts against terrorism
General Austin, the nominee for Secretary of Defense in the administration of newly elected US President Joe Biden, has acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts against terrorism.
Speaking at the US Senate Armed Services Committee, Secretary-General-designate General (retd) Lloyd Austin said Pakistan has been a key US ally for the peace process in Afghanistan. Will keep
General Austin said that while encouraging the support of a neighboring country like Pakistan, Pakistan is also helping to prevent regional elements from obstructing the Afghan peace process.
He said that maintaining relations with the Pakistan Army would open new avenues of cooperation between the two countries.
The nominee also said that Pakistan would play a key role in Afghanistan’s political reconciliation, adding that the United States needed to work with Pakistan to defeat al Qaeda, ISIS and regional stability.
