After the withdrawal, NATO requested a military base from Qatar for training Afghan troops

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has requested a military base from the Gulf state of Qatar to train Afghan troops after the withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Recently, US President Joe Biden announced the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan from May 1.

He said the evacuation would take place 20 years after the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center.

After the announcement of the US President, NATO also decided to withdraw its forces.

NATO announces end of military mission in Afghanistan

According to foreign reports, NATO, a military alliance of 36 countries, has approached Qatar to build a military base to train Afghan special forces after the withdrawal from Afghanistan.

The foreign news agency has claimed that three senior Western officials have also confirmed NATO’s contact with Qatar.

A senior security official in Kabul, speaking on condition of anonymity, said talks were under way with Qatar on a military base to train senior Afghan forces.

Another official said that Qatar had promised to provide land for training Afghan forces, but that it was up to the Qatari authorities to decide.

On the other hand, NATO, Qatar and the Afghan government have not responded.

It should be noted that the number of NATO forces in Afghanistan is 7,000, which is more than the US forces.

NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg has also announced the end of the military mission in Afghanistan.

Stoltenberg said that now only NATO civilian administrators would be in Kabul, but that funding for Afghan security agencies would continue until 2024.
